On Friday, August 7 at 9:30 a.m., Tryon Fine Arts Center (TFAC) celebrated the culmination of extensive renovations and the construction of the new Pavilion with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The vast improvements are the result of years of planning and professional assistance from Architect John Walters of Tryon and Harper General Contractors of Greenville.
The Tryon Fine Arts Center announced plans for an addition and upgrades to their facility on Melrose Avenue. Designed by Tryon architect John Walters, the project will include a two-story height multi-purpose pavilion and additional interior modifications.
John Walters was elected President of the Board of Directors of Upstairs Artspace, a contemporary art gallery in Tryon, NC. Walters will lead the gallery during its 40th anniversary year, having been founded in 1978.
The Saluda Family Practice Center officially opened with a ribbon cutting on June 18, 2018. Designed by Tryon architect John Walters, the center will provide medical service to Saluda as part of the St. Luke’s Hospital System.

Bids were received for the Columbus, NC Police Department addition. Architect John Walters presented the bid results to the Columbus Town Council.
John Walters was selected by the Polk County Board of Education to design the new facility for the Polk County Early College.
Architect John Walters presented an update to Landrum City Council on the progress of renovation plans for the Landrum depot during a meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10. Walters said if everything follows schedule, the construction phase on the depot could begin near the end of May, with the building set to be completed by the end of 2012.
Landrum City Council unanimously approved moving forward with John Walters Architect, PLLC of Tryon for the redesign of the town depot after a question-and-answer session Tuesday, Oct. 11. John Walters said he appreciated the vote of confidence from the city and the opportunity to improve such a historic landmark.
The Tryon Downtown Development Association (TDDA) recently held a charrette during which interested residents brainstormed possibilities for future development of the Palmer Street area in downtown Tryon. Architect John Walters said the TDDA has for a long time thought about doing a study on the Palmer Street area, which includes East Howard, Maple, Palmer and N. Trade streets.
John Walters was named to the Board of Directors of the Tryon (NC) Downtown Development Association (TDDA) for a three-year term. The goal of the TDDA is to preserve and enhance the community of Tryon through a downtown revitalization program that focuses on Economic Restructuring, Streetscape Design, and Historic Preservation. Mr. Walters will chair the Design Committee, which coordinates design efforts in the downtown area.
John Walters was elected chairman of the Board of Planning and Adjustment for the town of Tryon, NC. The Board of Planning and Adjustment acts in an advisory capacity to the Town Council on planning, zoning and subdivision matters. The former Planning and Zoning Board, which Mr. Walters also chaired, recently combined with the Board of Planning and Adjustment, to create a single board to handle planning and zoning issues.
